Kilter Rural is an Australian company, founded in 2004 to service a $200 million institutional investment in regenerative farming, biodiversity rehabilitation and climate change mitigation. The business regenerates underutilised agricultural farmland, transforming it to deliver technically advanced and environmentally sustainable irrigated and dryland production systems.
Since its inception, 12,000 hectares of land in northern Victoria has been remediated with the installation of irrigation infrastructure including more than 12,000km of high water-use efficiency sub-surface drip tape.
“At Kilter Rural one of our overarching strategies is to unlock value in irrigation landscapes to deliver financial returns underpinned by positive environmental and social impacts,” Kilter Rural CEO and Director Cullen Gunn said.
“For over 18 years the Kilter team has been delivering large-scale impact investments in Australian farmland, biodiversity and water, balancing agricultural production with ecosystem protection and climate change risk management.”
Achieving agricultural and environmental outcomes
Kilter Rural sees agricultural production and ecosystem protection as inter-dependent partners in delivering increased yields and long-term investor value. The main investment strategy at Kilter Rural includes:
- Profitably improve Australia’s unique natural capital
- Deliver real asset-backed returns uncorrelated with traditional investment classes
- Marrying agricultural returns with the regeneration of natural capital to deliver climate change mitigation
- Monitoring and reporting impact through the production of independently audited and certified environmental condition accounts.
The regional advantage
Kilter Rural sees the potential within the Goulburn Murray Irrigation District (GMID) to profitably improve Australian farmland, water and ecosystems at scale and generate long-term returns for investors.
“Our region boasts a strong and skilled workforce, with strategies to attract and develop future employees and skill sets,” Cullen said.
“The Goulburn Murray Irrigation District is the region to bring your business, do business and to invest in sustainable agribusiness opportunities.”
